Endings and beginnings

And so we came to the last London Varieties of 2012, and what a way to go out. Packed house. We used every single chair that we could find in the building and still quite a few of you had to stand. Sorry about that.

It was a great show with guests from Australia, Canada, America plus plenty of home grown talent too, and a hilarious on-stage interview with Arthur Smith to top it all off.

Towards the end of last year I had the idea to do a new kind of variety show - something that reflected the things I like, and the things I find interesting. I had no idea if anyone else would find these things interesting, but I thought "what the hell" and gave it a go anyway. From day one I've been stunned by the response. Pretty much every show has been sold out, full of the most beautiful, up for it audiences I have ever had the pleasure to play to. Every month I ended up sitting on my sofa in the early hours of the morning with my stash from the Brick Lane bagel shop and a daffy grin on my face. Not bad.

It's taught me that I'm going in the right direction, and filled my head with ideas for next year. Oh yes, we're coming back, bigger and badder in 2013.

But first, well there's Edinburgh. As I write this, my bag is packed on the floor behind me and I'm waiting for a taxi to come and pick me up and take me to Kings Cross, where my adventure at the Edinburgh Fringe will begin. Brand new one man show every night at 5.45, and the Varieties - the Voodoo Varieties, as it has been renamed for the fringe - every night at 8.15. Different line-up every night. Different interview subject every night. And yes, we're going to podcast the shows, so make sure you're subscribed to it on iTunes. We've got some amazing guests already lined up - go here to find out who.

So. Thanks. Like I said at the end of the Varieties, I truly have wined and dined with kings and queens.

Yes, and.
